I am a photographer and videographer based in Humboldt County, California.
I earned my B.A. in Journalism from Cal Poly Humboldt (then Humboldt State University) where I was recruited to run Division II Track and Cross Country. While in school, I earned multiple awards from the California College Media Association (CCMA) for best feature photograph, best sports photograph (2nd) and best newspaper page design (2nd) while working in multiple leadership roles for Humboldt’s award-winning student newspaper The Lumberjack.
I developed my love of sports photography as a media assistant in the school’s athletic department, where I shot in-game action and coordinated media day projects for my fellow student-athletes. I had the opportunity to merge my passion for photography with my love of endurance running when I documented U.S. Olympian Aliphine Tuliamuk’s final workout before competing in the 2021 Olympic Marathon in Tokyo. I’ve also had the opportunity to capture action at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships in Field Hockey and Cross Country.
Currently, I work at my alma mater as a Digital Communications Coordinator. I can be contacted through my email at ejportillophotography@gmail.com or elliottjportillo@gmail.com.
