Elliott Portillo is a photographer and videographer based in Humboldt County, California.

He earned his B.A. in Journalism from Cal Poly Humboldt (then Humboldt State University) where he was recruited to run Division II Track and Cross Country. While in school, Portillo earned multiple awards from the California College Media Association (CCMA) for best feature photograph, best sports photograph (2nd) and best newspaper page design (2nd) while working in multiple leadership roles for Humboldt’s award-winning student newspaper The Lumberjack

Portillo developed his love of sports photography as a media assistant in the school’s athletic department, where he shot in-game action and coordinated media day projects  for his fellow student-athletes. He had the opportunity to merge his passion for photography with his love of endurance running when he documented U.S. Olympian Aliphine Tuliamuk’s final workout before competing in the 2021 Olympic Marathon in Tokyo. He’s also had the opportunity to capture action at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships in Field Hockey and Cross Country.

Portillo currently works at his alma mater as a Digital Communications Coordinator. He can be contacted through his email at ejportillophotography@gmail.com or elliottjportillo@gmail.com.
